Girl Was Trafficked In Cape May, Atlantic Cos., 3 Indicted: AG

Two people trafficked a girl for sex out of Atlantic City, and a retired correctional officer sexually assaulted her, authorities said.

TRENTON, NJ — A grand jury indicted three people Tuesday for their roles in human trafficking and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Atlantic and Cape May Counties, according to the Office of Attorney General. Two people trafficked the girl at a casino hotel in Atlantic City, and a retired corrections officer from South Dennis Township sexually assaulted her, authorities said.

Tiffany N. Davis and Derrick V. Ross were indicted for the following:

  • conspiracy (first-degree)
  • human trafficking (first-degree)
  • promoting organized street crime (first-degree)
  • promoting prostitution of a child (first-degree)
  • facilitating human trafficking (second-degree)

Ross was also charged with sexual assaulting a child (second-degree) and endangering child welfare (third-degree). He sexually assaulted the victim multiple times, according to the OAG.

During the investigation, State Police responded by phone to an online "escort" ad. The person who answered agreed she would meet the undercover detective at a casino hotel in Atlantic City, which authorities did not name.

Authorities recovered the girl Nov. 27, when she arrived at the hotel and offered to have sex with the undercover detective, the OAG said. Authorities immediately connected the victim with support services.

Police arrested Ross later that day after determining he transported the 14-year-old victim to the hotel to traffic her, the OAG said. Further investigation showed Davis placed online ads and trafficked the victim to several men in November, with Ross's help, according to authorities.

Davis and Ross split proceeds from trafficking the victim, the OAG said.

First-degree human trafficking carries 20 years to life in prison for anyone convicted.
