Boy, 8, Saves Family From Devastating South Jersey House Fire

'All my toys are gone. I have none left," the young boy said after rescuing his entire family from a fire that destroyed their home.

An Egg Harbor Township family lost everything when a fire burned their home to the ground, and they have their 8-year-old son to thank for saving their lives.

Kane O’Connor saved his family after a fire broke out just after 11 p.m. Saturday night, according to The Press of Atlantic City. He was asleep with his 4-year-old sister when he woke up and realized their home was on fire.

When Scullville Fire Chief Steve Prisament arrived, he said the home was fully engulfed in flames, and that the the family had lost everything in the fire, which has been ruled accidental.

“He knows he did a really great thing,” Prisament told the newspaper. “He took active steps that saved his family’s lives.”

Prisament will present O’Connor with an award on Thursday when the boy is honored by the fire department and his school.

While he knows he did a great thing, he also knows his family was hit by a real tragedy.

O’Connor’s first words after rescuing his family by waking them up were “all my toys are gone. I have none left,” according to a GoFundMe set up to help the family.

“We know, that is least of the parents worry, but even the children's innocence has been robbed,” the organizer wrote in a statement on the page that has raised $1,925 in four days.
