Cape May County: 1st Day In 2 Months Of No New Coronavirus Cases

For the first day since April 5, Cape May County had no new coronavirus cases to report.

CAPE MAY COUNTY, NJ — For the first time since April 5, the Cape May County Health Department has no new coronavirus cases to report. The rate of positive testing in the county has dropped too.

Only 2.5 percent of tests between May 17-23 came up positive. Officials performed 2,174 tests — about 310 per day — in that span, finding only 56 positive tests in that stretch.

“Our Health Department has done amazing work with the health community and now private companies who are stepping up to providing COVID-19 testing,” said Freeholder Jeff Pierson, liaison to the Health Department.

Testing locations for COVID-19 now include Cape Regional Urgent Care in Wildwood, Marmora, and Cape May Court House, Cape Regional Hospital, Complete Care Health Network, and CVS in Seaville. Proof of insurance is not needed at the Cape Regional Urgent Care locations.

Officials reported the county's first positive test March 18. Here are some of the totals since then:

  • May 5: 379 total cases, 27 deaths
  • May 12: 479 cases (100-case increase), 36 deaths (nine more deaths)
  • May 19: 530 cases (51-case increase), 41 deaths (five more deaths)
  • May 26: 594 cases (64-case increase), 47 deaths (six more deaths)
  • Tuesday: 639 cases (45-case increase), 49 deaths (two more deaths)

The CMCHD has reported 10 active coronavirus cases, 32 people cleared off quarantine and one death in Ocean City as of Wednesday.

The department has reported 159 active cases, 331 cleared off quarantine and 49 deaths in the county as of Wednesday morning. That includes 66 active cases, 91 cleared off quarantine and 39 deaths in longterm-care facilities.
