Woman Killed In Sea Isle City House Fire: Police

Her body was found more than 24 hours after the blaze initially broke out.

SEA ISLE CITY, NJ - An elderly woman was killed in a fire that struck three duplexes in South Jersey on Thursday, authorities announced on Friday. One of the two people who was hospitalized was released, while the other is still being treated.

The body of 89-year-old Marie Zelinski was found in her apartment on Friday, over 24 hours after the deadly blaze broke out at a duplex on 54th Street near Landis Avenue in Sea Isle City, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Sea Isle City Police Chief Thomas McQuillen announced.

She was positively identified by the Southern Regional Medical Examiners Office who will be conducting an autopsy, authorities said.

Elizabeth Coleman, 56, and 60-year-old Roy Lombardo were both taken to Cape Regional Medical Center to be treated for burns and smoke inhalation, authorities said. Lombardo has since been

released, but Coleman was transferred to Cooper Medical Center and was still being treated as of Friday afternoon.

They are both residents of 29 54th Street, which was destroyed in the fire. Police believe the fire began in this duplex and spread to the two adjoining duplexes. A total of six homes and two vehicles were impacted by the fire, which broke out around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

The cause of the fire remained unknown Friday afternoon, but the fire has been completely extinguished. Detectives from the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office, Sea Isle City Police Department, ATF, and members of the Cape May County and New Jersey State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the cause of the fire.
