First Best Buddies Program in South Jersey Comes to Ocean City High School

The program pairs students with disabilities off with students without disabilities for everyday interaction, according to the Gazette.

The first Best Buddies program in southern New Jersey will make its debut at the HERO Walk, the Ocean City Gazette reports.

Best Buddies is a non-profit program aimed at creating one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, according to bestbuddies.org.

It establishes global volunteer programs. There are eight types of programs, including middle school, high school, college, citizens, e-buddies, jobs ambassadors and promoters.

The John R. Elliott 5K HERO Walk is Oct. 5 on the Ocean City Boardwalk. The walk begins at 11 a.m., preceded by registration at 9 a.m. at the Sports and Civic Center and a ceremony at 10:30 a.m.
