Flashing Crosswalk Signs Requested To Improve Ocean City Safety

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City officials want to install new flashing crosswalk signs around the island in order to improve traffic safety.

At the latest City Council meeting, a resolution formally requesting Cape May County to install seven new signs was approved by officials.

The resolution specifically notes Ocean City's increased population in the summer, putting more vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians on the roadway.

The new signs would improve traffic safety and help pedestrian movement, Police Chief Jay Prettyman said in a letter in the agenda packet.

The county's approval is needed because some roads are maintained by them.

The signs would be installed at the following locations:

  • 3rd Street and Bay Avenue
  • 15th Street and Bay Avenue
  • 17th Street and Bay Avenue
  • 26th Street and Bay Avenue
  • 30th Street and Bay Avenue
  • 36th Street and West Avenue
  • 54th Street and West Avenue
