Man Drowns At State Park In Ocean City, Possibly Caught In Rip Current
No swimming is allowed at Corson's Inlet, where 21-year-old Nathaniel Figueroa drowned last Friday, officials said.
OCEAN CITY, NJ — A Vineland man drowned at Corson's Inlet in Ocean City last Friday after potentially being caught in a rip current, officials said.
Nathaniel Figueroa, 21, was given CPR by Ocean City Beach Patrol members before being taken to Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point where he died from his injuries, a spokesperson for the Department of Environmental Protection, which oversees the New Jersey State Park Police, said.
Swimming is not allowed at Corson's Inlet, according to the DEP.

It is believed that Figueroa got caught in a rip current and toxicology reports are pending, the DEP spokesperson said.
The New Jersey State Park Police, Ocean City Police Department, Ocean City Fire Department and members of the Ocean City Beach Patrol responded to the scene.

Figueroa was a student at Rowan College of South Jersey, his obituary said. Nito, as he was called, was described as "hero" and his "positive energy, contagious smile and unforgettable phrases will be sadly missed," the obituary said.
Figueroa's drowning is the fourth in Cape May County in the past month.
