Man Found In Cape May County Marsh Was Popular DJ: Police

Scott Murphy has been identified as the man whose body was found in a Wildwood marsh over the weekend.

The man whose body was discovered in a South Jersey marsh over the weekend has been identified by police as a popular local DJ.

Scott Murphy, 70, of North Cape May, was found floating in the Jarvis Sound Marsh in Wildwood Crest by a kayaker at about 10:15 a.m. on Sunday morning (Dec. 23), police said.

An autopsy determined the cause of death to be cardiomyopathy, and Murphy’s death was deemed to be natural, police said. It was still unknown why he was in the water as of Thursday afternoon. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Murphy was a DJ for local radio stations for decades, according to 987 The Coast. He also DJ’d weddings and special events. He was the DJ of the popular “Starlight Ballroom” radio show that aired on Fridays and Saturdays.

He also wrote the book, "Fun With Oldies," according to his LinkedIn profile. The book is a list of classic songs from the 50s, 60s and 70s broken up into over 180 different categories based on idea, theme or genre. He launched his mobile DJ service in 1986, and ran it for 32 years.
