Ocean City Basketball Teams Take Home Pair of Titles at Boardwalk Classic

The boys and girls went a combined 5-0 at the annual Wildwood basketball tournament.

The Ocean City High School basketball programs brought a pair of championships home with them from their trip to Wildwood.

The boys captured the John Pierantozzi Boys Bracket championship with a 45-40 win over Penn Charter (PA) during the Boardwalk Classic at the Convention Center in Wildwood on Wednesday, according to bbclassic.com.

Connor Laverty helped the Red Raiders hoist the trophy with a 20-point performance. He also had seven rebounds and an assist. This came one day after he dropped 15 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out three assists in Ocean City’s win over Upper Dublin (PA).

Garrett Jones had 12 points, a rebound and two assists. Luciano Lubrano, who recorded a double double against Upper Dublin (PA), had seven points, three rebounds and three assists. Sean Jamison had four points, five rebounds and an assist.

Ocean City trailed, 27-18, heading into the final quarter, but eradicated the deficit by outscoring Penn Charter (PA), 27-13, in the final eight minutes to win the title.

The Red Raiders went 3-0 in this year’s Boardwalk Classic. Ocean City defeated Haverford in a showcase game last Wednesday.

The girls defeated Berks Catholic (PA), 31-27, in the John Carlson Memorial Girls Bracket championship game at the Boardwalk Classic at the Convention Center in Wildwood on Wednesday, according to bbclassic.com.

Grace Sacco led the way with 13 points, five rebounds and an assist. Alexis Paone and Rosalia Daddi each scored six points in the win.

The Red Raiders got off to a slow start with just two first quarter points, but came alive with 14 points in the second quarter and never looked back.

Ocean City advanced to the championship game with a 39-25 win over Downington East (PA) on Tuesday.
