Ocean City Pols Approve Attempt To Buy Former Car Lot
City Council voted to let the City negotiate to buy or take the former car dealership. How would you like to see the space used?

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City Council voted Thursday for the City to negotiate acquisition of the former Ocean City Chevrolet site. This is a step in the City's multi-year effort to purchase or take the space by condemnation.
The former Perry-Egan dealership closed for good in January 2018. Council tried to purchase the property last year for $9 million. But a citizens' group successfully petitioned for a referendum on the sale, and the seller ended the deal.
Mayor Jay Gillian described this step as "only the beginning" of the process. If the City successfully purchases the land, a town-hall meeting will take place to discuss how to best use it, Gillian said.

"We are not currently considering this location as a potential site for a new public safety building," Gillian said Friday in his weekly address. "It will be reserved for open space, recreation or some other public use."
The purchase price this time around has not been determined.
