The state Department of Transportation announced the road closing last week and said it is necessary to accommodate construction crews as they pave the intersection of the causeway with Shore Road and Mays Landing Road in Somers Point. The date of the work could change, depending on the weather.

The work is part of a five-year, $400 million project replace the entire causeway and two bridges. Work on the roadways is expected to be complete in May 2012.
