Retired Ocean City Cop Sentenced in Sexual Assault Case

Charles Cusack previously pleaded guilty in the case to avoid 10 years in jail.

Ocean City, NJ -- Retired Ocean City Police officer Charles Cusack was sentenced to five years probation after pleading guilty to charges of sexual assault, the Ocean City Gazette reports.

He must register as a sex offender under the state’s Megan’s Law registry for a minimum of 15 years, according to the report.

Cusack reached the plea deal in November, just before his trial was set to begin, to avoid up to 10 years in state prison.

Cusack was accused of having sexual contact with a young employeebetween 16 and 18 years old he supervised as a beach-tag inspector. He was arrested last August.

Cusack was serving in his second season as supervisor in the beach-tag office. He retired from the police department in 2011 and was a resource officer at Ocean City High School for two years.
