Boy, 16, Jumps From Garden State Plaza In Suicide Attempt: Police

Breaking: The boy jumped from the top level of the 5-story parking garage. He had no pulse when police found him, authorities said.

PARAMUS, NJ — A 16-year-old boy jumped from the top floor of the Garden State Plaza parking garage in a suicide attempt Tuesday morning, police announced.

Police found the boy with no pulse on the roadway next to the garage shortly after 10 a.m., said Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg.

Lt. Christine Udis and Sgt. Michael Pollaro immediately began CPR and shocked the boy with a defibrillator. The officers and paramedics and EMS responders continued CPR for 20 minutes and regained a pulse, Ehrenberg said.

The boy was critically injured from the fall and taken to Hackensack University Medical Center. He remains there in critical condition, the chief said. The boy's family was found and taken to the hospital.

Authorities found two witnesses at the scene, but ask anyone who may know something to call the Paramus Police Department at 201-262-3400.
