PARAMUS, NJ — A woman was injured on Tuesday night after a deer fell from an overpass on the Garden State Parkway and smashed into the car she was driving in Paramus, police said.
Police Chief Robert Guidetti said that officers headed to Paramus Road around 7:15 p.m. on a report of a crash.
They determined that a deer fell from the overpass and struck a 2025 Hyundai Tucson being driven by a 44-year-old woman from Hackensack.
She was heading northbound in the right lane of Paramus Road when her vehicle was struck, police said.
The driver became trapped in the vehicle when the frame of the car door was damaged. Police Officer Joseph Mastrofilipo helped free the woman.
She had non-life-threatening injuries, Guidetti said. She declined medical attention.
The deer was found dead.
Paramus police had a busy night on Tuesday, rushing to the scene of a crash between a teen e-bike rider and a Tesla driver an hour before the deer incident. Read about that here.
