Give Ax Throwing A Try At New Paramus Business

Bury the Hatchet brings the sport of ax throwing to Bergen County.

PARAMUS, NJ — Ax throwing is coming to Bergen County.

Bury The Hatchet has built the largest ax throwing location in the United States at 49 East Midland Ave., in Paramus.

Owner Howard Klotzkin said the business will host a soft open next week and a grand opening a week later. It will be open seven days a week.

"Once you throw your first ax and it lands in the wood, it's very satisfying," Klotzkin said. "It's a great team-building exercise. You're enjoying one another's company, having a beer, and throwing axes. It's a lot of fun."

Ax throwing has grown in New Jersey. Klotzkin owns 11 other locations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Another ax throwing business, Stumpy's Hatchet House, opened in Green Brook in June.

The business will cater to adults and children ages 14 and older. There will be leagues for all ages, much like bowling leagues. The facility is BYOB.

Bury The Hatchet is a member of the World Axe Throwing League, the governing body of ax throwing. Competitions are eight weeks long and there are cash prizes. Local winners move on to the regional and national levels.

Bury The Hatchet will also host weddings, birthday parties, bachelor and bachelorette parties, and corporate team building events. An ax master will stay with groups to ensure customers' safety. Groups can range from two to 150 people.

"It's similar to darts, except your throwing a heavier object," said Klotzkin. "It's very safe."
