Board: One Sign Enough for Planned Banquet Hall

Sign at entrance of planned Biagio's banquet hall voted down

can only build one of the two signs its owners want in front of the planned banquet hall going up adjacent to the existing restaurant.

The Zoning Board of Adjustment on Thursday approved the restaurant's plans to construct a monument sign with LED lighting in front of the proposed Terrace at Biagio's. But the board voted down a second sign that would have hung over the entrance to the banquet hall.

"I feel one monument sign, to me, is more than sufficient to the property," said Steve Sullivan, board chairman.

The monument sign, with the exception of the LED lighting, which will change messages depending on the event being hosted at the banquet hall, will closely match the existing banquet hall at Biagio's Restaurant.

Tsampicos Perides, the architect for Biagio's, said the sign would could display the names of couples being married at the hall or the guests of honor.

Sullivan said he "had a problem with the LED." LED lighting isn't permitted by the Borough code. But Biagio's attorney Stephen Sinisi pointed out a number of nearby sites with LED lighting like Paramus Golf Course, Bergen Community College and Paramus Catholic High School.

Perides said the Biagio's LED sign would be smaller than the other Paramus Road LED signs.
