Nissan Dealership Approved on Route 4

Sales and showroom only, owner says

Updated at 11:15 p.m.: The former Sixth Avenue Electronics store on Route 4 west will be converted into a Nissan dealership after the Zoning Board of Adjustment meeting approved plans for the business Thursday.

The building will serve as a showroom and sales office only, with no service or repair on-site, owner Jonathan Stern said.

Customers of the dealership can use a Nissan facility in Hackensack for service and parts, Stern said. The inventory will be shuttled to the dealership individually rather than by trailer, he added.

The dealership will be open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Stern told the board that there will be at most 13 employees working on-site at the same time, and expected at most five customers at a time.

There are 51 parking spots on the property, most of which will be occupied by inventory and display cars, as well as employee vehicles. Steve Sullivan, board chairman, was concerned that there would be enough parking for customers.

"I'm trying to make sure that there's enough parking to accommodate everyone," he said.

Stuart Liebman, attorney for the proposed dealership, said the site would face the same problems as any other retail business would.

"We think we're going to make this site look good, and it hasn't looked good for a long time," he said.
