Tee Time App Coming To Paramus Golf Course

A look at what's in store this spring and summer at the municipal links

The has had a strong start thanks to a mild winter, and management at the course plans to build on the momentum with new programs at the mini golf course and at the 18-hole links, including a mobile app.

The miniature golf course opens March 31.

Ginny Laamenen, a ranger at the course, is running the mini golf and plans to entice local students. While the course is officially only open on weekends until May, one of her ideas is to reach out to open during the week of April 23, when Paramus students are on spring break.

She plans to distribute fliers in Paramus schools and in Fair Lawn, which has its spring break the following week.

Andy Schuckers, superintendent and general manager of the Paramus Golf Course, plans to draw Paramus students with a competition for the elementary schools. The school that has the most students come to the mini golf course in a month will get a free trip to the course and the Fritz Behnke Historical Museum.

The mini golf course will also be available for birthday parties or non-profits who want to hold fundraising events at the course.

The fees at the mini golf course are the same as last year: $6 for children and seniors, and $8 for adults.

Those interested in a serious game of golf may soon get a technological boost at the Paramus Golf Course. While attending a PGA event, Schuckers entered and won a contest held by Slick Greens, a company that designs custom golf course mobile apps.

Slick Greens is designing a mobile app that will display what tee times are available and give tips on each hole, among other features. The company normally charges for the app, but the Paramus Golf Course is getting it for free.

Schuckers hopes the app will be available by May.

The app isn't the only way the Paramus Golf Course is adapting technology. Schuckers said there will soon be a YouTube video showing off the mini golf course, which will be embedded on the Borough website and a soon-to-come Paramus Golf Course website.

The Paramus Golf Course has posted strong numbers thus far, bolstered by a mild winter. Golfers played 6,335 rounds at the course through the end of February, a drastic improvement over the zero rounds played during the same period in snowbound 2011.

The course has made $225,000 in revenue through the end of February, which Schuckers estimated was a 700% improvement over the 2011 figures.

"We look forward to a good golf season," Schuckers said. "It's been a great start."
