Department of Transportation to Spray Herbicides along Paramus Roads

Goal is to clear guard rails of vegetation

The New Jersey Department of Transportation is spraying herbicides along several Bergen County roads in May, including four in Paramus.

Starting Tuesday, the NJDOT will spray weeds and vegetation under and along guard rails and on large traffic islands.

The Bergen County Department of Public Works selected all the routes and will cover labor, material and equipment costs for the NJDOT.

Timothy Greeley, a spokesman for the NJDOT, said the spraying is done to make sure guard rails are visible to drivers. The chemicals used are a approved by the Department of Environmental Protection and will only kill the targeted weeds, Greeley said.

The targeted Paramus roads are: Paramus Road, Pascack Road, Ridgewood Avenue and Forest Avenue.
