For 17 years, Asher Millman, a physician assistant and rabbi, suffered from the severe and debilitating effects of Crohn's disease, which hampered his career and family life. After seeking treatment at various prestigious hospitals without success, he found hope at the newly established Center for Inflammatory Bowel Disease at Hackensack University Medical Center.

Under the care of Alyssa Parian, M.D. an Inflammatory Bowel Disease specialist and the Medical Director of The Center for Inflammatory Bowel Disease at Hackensack University Medical Center.

Millman received a timely and accurate diagnosis that had previously been missed. Imaging tests had not shown active inflammation, but Dr. Parian trusted Millman's account of his severe symptoms and performed a colonoscopy. The procedure revealed significant inflammation in his rectum, which explained his intense pain.

The collaborative approach of the medical team, including colorectal surgeon Ryan Moore, M.D, was a key aspect of his care. Following the diagnosis, Millman underwent a temporary diverting colostomy to allow the inflamed area to heal. This procedure provided immediate relief, and he is now back to his professional and family life with renewed energy. Millman credits the dedicated and personalized care he received at the center for giving him his life back and advises others with Crohn's to find doctors who are personally invested in their care.
