Three Newest Paramus Officers Sworn In

Join department low on manpower

The three newest officers were publicly sworn in Tuesday night.

However, Jonathan Henderson, Daniel DeRienzo and Kurtis Massey have been on the road since Dec. 16. Capt. Kenneth Ehrenberg said they were joining a department that, due to low manpower, needed their services right away.

"Police work is not for those who are just seeking a paycheck," Ehrenberg said.

For the record, the three officers will make $39,108 a year.

Massey and DeRienzo each have police pedigrees. DeRienzo's father is a lieutenant with the Bergen County Police Department.

Massey is a third-generation Paramus officer. His father, also named Kurtis, is a detective sergeant with the Paramus Police Department. And his grandfather, formerly Sgt. Karl Massey, was Ehrenberg's first boss in the department.

"If the Paramus Police Department had a hall of fame, Sgt. Massey would have been an original member," Ehrenberg said.

Councilman Ralph Amato, the new police commissioner, said the three officers had joined a police department he considered among the best in the state.

"I know that they will make Paramus proud," he said.
