Trial Attorney Christopher Karounos Named Leader in Law

Christopher T. Karounos, a trial attorney at Brandon J. Broderick, Attorney at Law, was named a 2024 Leader in Law by NJBIZ. He was selected for the award by a panel of independent judges who recognized him for his “outstanding dedication to the legal profession.”

A long-time Paramus resident, Karounos received the award May 14 during a ceremony at The Palace at Somerset Park.

“Receiving this prestigious award was a humbling experience,” said Karounos. “I extend my deepest gratitude to the esteemed panel of judges for their recognition, and to my peers at Brandon J. Broderick, Attorney at Law for their unwavering support while fighting for the rights of those injured by others’ actions.”

This isn’t the first time Karounos has been recognized for his legal talent. Super Lawyers magazine also recently named him a N.J. Super Lawyer for the sixth year in row, and Bergen Magazine named him a Top Lawyer in 2022 and 2023; the awards for 2024 are yet to be announced.

Karounos has extensive trial experience and has handled serious injury cases arising from assaults, motor-vehicle crashes, slip or fall injuries, watercraft collisions, trucking incidents, construction defects, motorcycle accidents, and worksite injuries. He is one of fewer than three percent of New Jersey lawyers certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Civil Trial Attorney.

He has also handled numerous commercial litigation and trial matters. Among his notable settlements and verdicts are a $28 million settlement for a man who suffered severe burns in a workplace explosion, a $9.5 million jury verdict for two sisters who suffered life-changing injuries in a boat crash in the Manasquan Inlet, and multiple seven-figure judgments and settlements for various commercial and injury litigation clients.

Outside of work, Karounos has done a great deal of community service. He is a former volunteer EMT, with 20 years of experience in trauma situations. He is a former Adjunct Professor of Law at Rutgers University Law School-Newark, and served as head coach for the school’s National Mock Trial Team. He is a longtime barrister for the Bergen County Pashman Civil Inns of Court, and has provided pro bono services for battered women and victims of domestic violence. He is a former President of the Hellenic American Bar Association and is a member of the New Jersey Association for Justice, the American Association for Justice, and the Bergen County Bar Association.
