12 Days Of Giving Food Drive: How To Help In Parsippany
According to Feeding America, 5.8 percent of Morris County residents were food-insecure before the pandemic. But the public can help.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Hunger remains an issue in Morris County, where 5.8 percent of residents faced food insecurity before the pandemic, which exacerbated the issue everywhere, according to Feeding America. But the public can help, with plenty of food drives taking place throughout the holiday season.

One charitable initiative includes the Morris County Democratic Women's Caucus's second-annual food drive, which will run from Wednesday to Dec. 12. The "12 Days of Giving" initiative includes several contactless dropoff sites, including 7 Doric Ave., Parsippany.

“Last year, the food drive benefitted 500 families and helped lift their spirits,” said Mendham Township Committee Person Amalia Duarte. “Unfortunately, rising food prices have only made the problem of food insecurity worse. I encourage those who can give to share their own good fortune with others who are experiencing difficulties. A donation of any amount of food items is appreciated.”
The caucus seeks non-perishable food and hygiene and cleaning products for local food pantries. The most critical items are canned fish/meat. Here's a list of other requested food items:

- Breakfast items (hot/cold cereals)
- Boxed potatoes/canned potatoes
- Canned beans (red, black, cannelloni, kidney, waxed)
- Canned fruit/applesauce
- Canned vegetables (peas, green beans, tomatoes)
- Condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise)
- Cooking oil
- Dried beans — red/black
- Dried/powdered milk
- Jelly (strawberry/grape)
- Macaroni & cheese
- Pancake mixes/syrup
- Peanut butter
- Pasta/pasta sauce
- Snack foods
- Soups
- Stuffing/rice side dishes/bags of white rice
- Tomato products
Household items requested include:
- Cleaning wipes/bleach
- Dish/laundry detergent
- Paper towels
- Soap/shampoo/conditioner
- Tissues/napkins
- Toilet paper
- Toothpaste/toothbrush
