5 Reasons to Live in Parsippany

Insights from a local who has been around the world and still enjoys coming back home for over 22 years.

As I continue progressing down the “becoming a REAL adult” path, I’d like to reflect on how lucky I was to grow up in a town that always felt safe and helped create an environment that set me up for future success. And, for the record, safe does not mean boring- you just have to know where to look! I’m here to share some of my insights about Parsippany that are relevant to everyone, including what there is to do, the education system, where to eat, and more.

1. Diversity

I really can’t stress this enough – knowing how to work with others who come from different backgrounds is so important, and not just in professional settings. Just around my house, we have neighbors that are Irish, Indian, Polish, Spanish, and Chinese. I actually think this is a pretty accurate reflection on how diverse the rest of the town is, which is celebrated through communal cultural events, restaurants, and in our schools. I feel strongly that this type of environment helped me become an open-minded person and develop an appreciation for different cultures.

2. Food

Yes – there IS more than fast food and chain restaurants nearby, although who doesn’t want Taco Bell every now and then? In all seriousness, I’m confident you can find whatever type of food you’re in the mood for all in one town, and don’t be afraid to try new things. If you have not already or are looking to switch up your normal routine, below are my recommendations for all different types of food in the local Lake Hiawatha/Parsippany area. I’ll link their websites in case you want to take a peek at the menus!

If you’re looking for something a bit more upscale, remember that Morristown is only a 15-minute ride away. Treat yourself to a big steak at Roots! And maybe order a glass of Prosecco to go with it.

3. Education

After attending both primary and secondary school in Parsippany, there is one thing I know for sure – I received a quality education. While in high school, I had my fair share of complaints about how much work I had to do and how challenging some of my classes were, but it wasn’t until I started college that I realized how prepared it made me. I finished high school with a diploma I could be proud of that put me on track to graduate in the top 10% of my class at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Speaking of FDU, Parsippany is located near many accredited private colleges and public universities, such as my alma mater, Drew University, Rutgers, and more for those looking to stay in state.

4. Transportation

Did you know New York City is only about 40 minutes away by bus from Parsippany? No transfers, either! Even better, round trip tickets will only cost you $20 as opposed to over $100 for a car service one way. Having easy access to the City is perfect for those looking for a fun day trip and for those that commute to work. If you’re into Broadway shows, I recommend catching a matinee and visiting Le Rivage for lunch beforehand!

5. Things to Do

I specifically saved this topic for last because we’re not necessarily known for our nightlife scene, but there are things to do that are great for families, couples, friends, and everyone in between. Here are some of my favorite activities in and around Parsippany:

  • Shopping. Secret’s out – I love to shop! So, believe me when I say there are lots of good stores nearby. Also, did you hear about the new shops coming to Waterview Blvd.? Right now, Ulta, DSW, and HomeSense are open and ready for shoppers, but we will soon have a new Whole Foods, Shake Shack, and Orange Theory! If you’re in the mood to browse, stop by Marshalls on Rte. 46.
  • Join Par-Troy East (PTE) or Par-Troy West (PTW) Little League and the Parsippany Soccer Club – if you have young children who are looking to get involved in sports, joining the local little league or the soccer club is a great place to start. PTE and PTW have Fall Ball leagues, too! Perfect for this time of year. PTE was a huge part of my childhood as it sparked a passion for softball and taught me how to be an effective part of a team. Fun fact – the Par-Troy East baseball team made it to the Little League World Series in 2012! Read Chris Masse’s Patch article for more details.
  • Pumpkin picking – I personally love “spooky season” and will never be too old for a hayride and pumpkin picking. I suggest visiting Wightman Farms in Morristown, about a 20-minute ride from Parsippany, for a day full of cute fall festivities. They also offer delicious apple cider and donuts!
  • Get some ice cream – Can you tell I like food by now? One of my favorite things to do while it’s still warm out is to head over to Super Scoops and drive around the lake.
  • After all that eating, exercise! LA Fitness and Blink Fitness are two of the more popular gyms in Parsippany, but there are also several exercise classes you can look into, like yoga and Zumba. As I mentioned, Orange Theory is soon coming to Parsippany, which is all about high intensity interval training. These classes also come highly recommended by my coworker, so I’m definitely excited about this one.

If you’re looking for something else to do on your night out, remember Morristown. There are lots of bars and restaurants on the green.

Whether you’re looking to move, are new to town, or you’ve been here for a while like me, Parsippany offers a little something for everyone.
