Cops: Teen Crashes Stolen Luxury Vehicle, Second Car Thief Sought

Homeowner watched as thieves backed vehicles out of driveway, police report.

Police are searching for a car thief after two vehicles were stolen from a Parsippany home’s driveway, leading to a chase and subsequent crash in northern New Jersey.

Parsippany police responded to a home on Winding Way at 1:07 a.m. on Jan. 12 for a report of a stolen vehicle.

The homeowner called 9-1-1 when he was awakened by the sound of a vehicle ignition starting in the driveway, police said. When the homeowner looked out the window, he saw his 2010 white Nissan Murano and 2015 white 4-door Audi being backed out of the driveway, police said.

Descriptions of the vehicles were broadcast to surrounding police departments, and Parsippany patrol observed the cars traveling at a high rate of speed after entering Rt. 280 in opposite directions, police said.

Parsippany police then attempted to chase the Murano but were unsuccessful, police said. Roseland Police then advised Parsippany the Audi had crashed in their jurisdiction, and a 17-year-old male from East Orange had been taken into custody, police said.

The Nissan Murano and second driver have not been recovered. Anyone with information is asked to call Parsippany police at 973-263-4300.
