Drug, Alcohol Incidents Down In Parsippany Schools

Parsippany schools saw a decrease in drug and alcohol related incidents last year.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Drug and alcohol related incidents are down at Parsippany schools, according to new information released by the state Department of Education.

The data is released annually, and tallies how many incidents happen in each school district. The data released this month is for the 2016-2017 school year.

There was a six fewer substance-related incidents in the district in 2016-2017 than there were the year before. Ten incidents were reported in the district, which includes Parsippany and Parsippany Hills high schools.

Relative to the rest of the county, Parsippany was in the middle of the pack. Several districts reported just three incidents, while the district with the most (Morris School District), reported 42.

The state Department of Education has cautioned that these numbers are reported by each district, so each jurisdiction is responsible for reporting its results fairly and accurately. But they are required by law to report them.
