Parsippany Election 2017: Barberio Out As Mayor

Breaking: See who voters picked to represent them in the upcoming years.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Parsippany Mayor James R Barberio will leave office at the end of his current term, having been bested by his Democratic challenger, Michael Soriano.

Barberio was seeking a third term as mayor, and was ousted after a competitive race. Soriano received 7,378 votes, or 52.87 percent, and Barberio received 6,565, or 47.04 percent, of the vote.

The Morris County Democratic Committee had filed an ethics complaint against Barberio early last month, alleging that Barberio inappropriately revived a township newsletter and used a township Facebook page for campaign purposes. Soriano called on Barberio to reimburse the town for the costs of the flyer.
