Lake Parsippany Elementary School Student Honored at Johns Hopkins CTY Award Ceremony

Sahil Shah from Parsippany, New Jersey, was recognized for academic excellence and honored as one of the brightest young students.

Sahil Shah from Parsippany, New Jersey, was recognized for academic excellence and honored as one of the brightest young students in the world at a recent awards ceremony sponsored by the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) on May 21, 2016

Sahil, a participant in the CTY Talent Search, was recognized for scoring exceptionally high on a rigorous, above-grade-level test. CTY uses above-grade-level tests because they provide a clear picture of advanced students’ academic abilities. As part of the CTY Talent Search, advanced students in second through eighth grades take challenging tests that can reveal their true capacity for learning.

Sahil, a student at Lake Parsippany Elementary School, was one of more than 30,000 students from more than 60 countries who participated in the CTY Talent Search between March 2015 and February 2016. This 4th grader was one of the 3 award winners in the Par-Troy school district. The remaining students were from the middle School. “We are thrilled to celebrate these students for their hard work and academic achievements,” said Elaine Tuttle Hansen, executive director of CTY. “We’d also like to recognize the parents and educators who saw the academic talent in these students and provided them with opportunities to develop it further.”

Along with this CTY award, Sahil is also recognized as Davidson Young Scholar. The Davidson Young Scholars Qualification Criteria identifies students at the extreme end of the gifted continuum, which includes the Students with Evidence of Extreme Intellectual Abilities who scores in the top 99.9th percentile of the population.

In addition to his academic achievements and his huge passion for everything science, Sahil plays saxophone and creates mini teaching games in SCRATCH for his little brother. This young talent, who designed Lego models in kindergarten, mastered Mathematical Origami of complex platonic solids in 2nd grade and SCRATCH programming in 3rd grade is onto exploring robotics next.
