Massive Hole Opens Up In Parsippany Backyard
The hole is around 10 feet wide and more than 20 feet deep, police said.
PARSIPPANY, NJ — A Parsippany family woke up to a surprise after discovering that a very large hole had opened up in the ground of their backyard, police said.
Parsippany police were called to a home on Hawkins Avenue on Thursday to learn that a giant hole had opened up in the residence's backyard.
Officials said the hole is around 10 feet wide and roughly 20 feet deep. Wooden timber and dirt could be seen at the bottom, police added.

Authorities believe the wooden timber collapsed, exposing the large hole, which may have been an old well or septic.
The hole has since been surrounded by a small perimeter, warning others of the gap. It's further protected by an already-existing fence around the property.

A News12 report says it would be the family’s obligation to fill in the hole. But the homeowner says a professional told her that the ground is too frozen to fix the issue at this time.
