Houses of worship can expect to see an increased law enforcement presence.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Parsippany police recently announced that it will be increasing security measures around town in light of the conflict in Iran.

On Thursday, police said that they are keeping an eye on developments in the Middle East, and while there is no threat in Parsippany at this time, there will be an increased law enforcement presence in the township.

“The Parsippany Police Department continues monitoring international developments,” a statement read. “There are currently no known threats to our community, and officers will maintain an increased presence at houses of worship out of an abundance of caution.”

The announcement comes days after the United States and Israel launched “preemptive attacks” on Iran. The conflict has resulted in the deaths of at least three U.S. troops, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and countless civilians throughout the Middle East.

Parsippany’s decision to increase law enforcement echoes sentiments from New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport, who said on Saturday that there would be increased patrols in “sensitive areas” across the Garden State.

“While there are no specific threats to safety in New Jersey, law enforcement will increase patrols of sensitive areas — particularly houses of worship — to ensure that everyone feels safe and secure in their communities,” Davenport said. “Law enforcement will be taking other steps — some that will be noticeable and others that may be taken out of view — and all out of an abundance of caution.”

The Attorney General asks that all New Jerseyans remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local authorities “without delay.”
