Mimi Letts, Parsippany 1st Woman Mayor, Gets Plaque In Town Hall
Letts was mayor from 1994-2005. She served with 'dedication, integrity and pride,' Mayor Michael Soriano said in a proclamation.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — Parsippany officials created another way for Mimi Letts to go down in history. Mayor Michael Soriano and Township Council delivered a proclamation Tuesday in her honor, before unveiling a Town Hall plaque commemorating Parsippany's first and only woman mayor.
Letts served as mayor from 1994-2005 "with dedication, integrity and pride," said Mayor Michael Soriano. She died in 2019 at age 80.
Letts was not only mayor, but a member of the Planning and Zoning Boards, the Parsippany Historical Society, Kiwanis Club and New Jersey Highlands Council She also served as president of the Brookside Senior Housing Corporation.

More than 20 memorial plaques hang in Town Hall honoring deceased mayors and councilmembers. Howard Letts, Mimi's husband, attended Tuesday's Township Council meeting in which officials unveiled the former mayor's plaque.
"Mimi was a very generous person," said Councilmember Janice McCarthy. "She gave a lot of support, and she mentored others — especially women — to become involved in politics."
