NJSFWC Highlands District Day of Service – A Great Success
New Jersey State Federation of Women's Clubs Come Together to help the Community Food Bank of NJ
On Martin Luther King Day, January 16, 2023, 55 clubwomen from the New Jersey Federation of Women’s Clubs (NJSFWC) Highlands district representing 9 different clubs gathered at the Lake Parsippany Rescue & Recovery Building on Centerton Drive. They brought assorted food items to sort and assemble into food kits which were given to the Interfaith Food Pantry, a member partner of the Community Food Bank of New Jersey. This same activity occurred throughout the state in each of the other seven districts within NJSFWC.
The mission of the Community Food Bank of NJ is:
“We fight hunger and poverty in New Jersey by assisting those in need and seeking long-term solutions. We engage, educate, and empower all sectors of society in the battle. Working together with volunteers, donors and our many partners, we work to fill the emptiness caused by hunger with Food, Help and Hope.”

Altogether 136 food kits were assembled, and another 379 extra items were donated by the generous women from the NJSFWC Highlands Districts. There were four different kits requested by the Community Food Bank, who supplied a list of contents for each kit – dinner, healthy meal, college and snow day. The food was sorted and packed into 2 ½ gallon Ziplock bags and labeled with the kit type. It was a busy morning full of camaraderie and laughs as the ladies worked hard to make this event a success.

The Woman’s Club of Parsippany-Troy Hills is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) and the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs (NJSFWC), which are the largest volunteer women's service organizations in the country/state, providing opportunities for education, leadership training, and community service. General Meetings are held the fourth Monday of each month September through April at 7:00 pm at the Parsippany Fire & Rescue Building at 100 Centerton Road, Parsippany.
