Par Hills Boys Soccer Wins Parsippany Cup

The Vikings defeat their crosstown rival, the Parsippany High Red Hawks.

Under sunny skies, the varsity boys soccer teams from Parsippany High School and Parsippany Hills High School met for their yearly battle over the Parsippany Cup. This year, the prize went to Par Hill's Vikings, who grabbed an early lead and managed to keep it for the rest of the game. The final score was 2-1.

PHHS coach Ahmed Kandil said that when his team plays to its potential, "they're unstoppable."

Kandil said the team, whose record now stands at 5-5-1, has been struggling with injuries this season.

The Hills' two goals came courtesy of players Sebastian Gallo and Christian Buitrago.

Buitrago, a freshman, said he was thrilled to have connected.

"It felt awesome," he said, "like I lifted the team's morale."

The Parsippany High Red Hawks made a valiant effort throughout the game. Its single goal was scored by Tyler Pirylis.

"They played fairly hard," said PHS coach Michael Mueller. "There were a couple breakdowns, but I'm proud of our guys. They didn't give up. And the Hills did a good job in the second half on defense.

"It's nice to see the two teams come together. The rivalry is intense, but not  bitter," Mueller added. "It's a good, fun rivalry."

The Parsippany Cup is presented by the Parsippany Soccer Club.
