Parents Suing Over Toddlers Drowning Death At Morris Co. Lake

3-year-old Sienna Maloney drowned two years ago in a local lake. Now, her parents are suing the town and lifeguards.

PEQUANNOCK, NJ — The parents of a 3-year-old who drowned in a Morris County lake are suing Pequannock Township, saying they didn't do enough to save their daughter's life, the Daily Record reported.

Sienna Maloney, 3, died in July 2016 when she drowned in Pequannock Valley Park. A lawsuit filed by her parents, Scott and Denise Maloney, alleges that the park employees and lifeguards failed to see Sienna drowning, and did not supervise her enough, leading to her death. The park is owned by the Township.

Township officials told the paper the lawsuit was handed over to their insurance company, but lamented the loss, calling it "a very tragic occurrence." (You can read more about the lawsuit here.)

Denise Maloney reported she couldn't find her daughter at the park the afternoon of her death on July 11, 2016. Lifeguards evacuated the water and began searching. Sienna was found unresponsive and was given CPR before being taken by ambulance to Chilton Medical Center where she later died.

In an obituary, Sienna was remembered as an adventurous, fun-loving little girl with a beautiful smile and "spunky" personality.
