Parsippany Officer Walks Out To Retirement After 25-Year Career

Lt. Thomas E. Pomroy began his time in law enforcement in 1996, joining the Parsippany Police Department four years later.

PARSIPPANY, NJ — After serving 25 years in law enforcement, Parsippany Police Lt. Thomas E. Pomroy walked out to his retirement.

Pomroy began his career in 1996 as a corrections officer in the Passaic County Sheriff's Department, also serving on their EMS unit. He came to Parsippany PD in 2000, where he served as a field training officer while assigned to patrol. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2014.

The officer was a supervisor in the Patrol Division and then was assigned to the planning and research section of the Support Services Division until 2016, before achieving lieutenant status.

Pomroy was then assigned to command the Communications Section, where he served as the township's municipal 911 coordinator, fire communications instructor, assistant NARCAN coordinator and liaison to the EMS and fire department.

“I always liked helping people and making a positive difference in people's lives," Pomroy said. "I like the variety of work. There are many areas of law enforcement that are diverse where officers can gravitate to, based on their particular interests.”

During his time with Parsippany PD, Pomroy earned two exceptional-duty medals, five lifesaving medals, three command citations, two unit commendations and became the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Officer of the Year in 2019. He also made case law from a motor vehicle stop in State vs. Mohammed Ameri (2011).
