Parsippany School Board Looking To Fill 2 Vacancies

One member resigned, another died in less than a week.

The nine-member Parsippany-Troy Hills Township Board of Education is down two members, and looking to actively fill seats this month.

A special notice has been put out to residents interested in volunteering on the school board after the seats abruptly became vacant over the past two weeks.

First term member James Carifi resigned his post at the end of January, telling parsippanyfocus.com he wanted to spend more time with his family.

Less than a week later, the board’s longest tenured member, Frank Calabria, died at the age of 76 on Feb. 3. Calabria was first elected to the board in 1974 and served a total of 11 years as the group’s president.

The board plans to fill its vacant positions at the Feb. 19 meeting. Interested individuals who possess the qualifications required to become a board member, which can be seen here, are encouraged to submit a resume and request for consideration to the Assistant Superintendant / Board Secretary, David Corso, by 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13. Submissions may be sent to the Board of Education Building, 292 Parsippany Road, Parsippany, NJ 07054.

The appointed seats will continue to change the face of the board, which saw two newcomers oust two incumbents in a contentious, six-person election last November.

The Feb. 19 meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. with a closed session, followed by an open agenda meeting at 7 p.m. at Parsippany High School.
