Parsippany School Board Member Resigns Abruptly
First-term representative wants to spend more time with family, report says.

As of Feb. 5, the Parsippany Troy-Hills Board of Education will be down one member after James Carifi announced his resignation.
According to parsippanyfocus.com, Carifi, who was elected to the board in 2012, said he wanted to spend more time attending his children’s school, sporting, and extracurricular activities.
Carifi’s term was set to expire Dec. 31, 2015. The former Parsippany police captain has been in the news multiple times in recent years, specifically for allegedly taking thousands of confidential digital documents from the police department upon his abrupt retirement in the spring of 2013. A judge ruled in November there would be no charges against the retired officer.

The Parsippany School Board will discuss next steps to fill Carifi’s spot at the Feb. 5 meeting, parsippanyfocus.com reported.
The move comes after a contentious November election that saw two incumbents – Susy Golderer and Sharif Shamsudin – unseated by newcomers Andrew Choffo and George Blair. Tim Berrios was the only incumbent to win re-election.
