Parsippany Soccer Club Looking For Lease Renewal

The Parsippany Soccer Club is hoping to renew its 10-year, "back-to-back'' lease of Reynolds Field, Club President David Lowe said.

The renewal bid was on the s agenda Tuesday night and officials will vote on it at the April 12 meeting.

Lowe, who was at the meeting, said he wanted to confirm that the lease agreement, which costs the club $1 a year, would be renewed before replanting about 40 large pine trees on the edges of the field that blew down in a wind storm last March.

"Before we do that, we'd like to make sure we're here," Lowe said. "It will cost the club about $20,00 to replace them and we want to make sure we're making a good investment.''

Mayor James Barberio said he didn't anticipate a problem with renewing the club's "10-plus-10" lease agreement, which spans a total of 20 years.

Although it pays virtually nothing to lease the land, the soccer club funds the maintenance and upkeep of the field, including lawn mowing and fertilizing.

The Parsippany Soccer Club, founded in 1973, is one of the largest in the state, with 2,000 members from ages 4 to 20.
