Puddingstone Hearing Continue, Sensitive Landscapes to be Erased
The Puddingstone Community has been described as "a creation of man and the continuance of nature"Now to end for two luxury homes; absurd!
Puddingstone Hearing Continue, July 19th- September 27th-Ongoing.
In this case "property has become the opposite of community, the enemy of nature"
The Puddingstone Heights hearing continue, and let us see what this developer is against in his failure to respect the ridge itself, and the Creed of life of the Neighborhood. This is what the developer is against or wishes to change forever.
The Puddingstone Community has been described as “a creation of man and the continuance of nature.
”The Neighborhood: Emphasis has always been on preserving nature; during its building phase, very few trees were cut down. As a result, numerous deer, wild turkey, foxes, and other wildlife call Puddingstone their home. The birds complete a setting which rivals New England and upstate New York.
The Concept: The original concept was to build a community that would take full advantage of the natural beauty of the heavily wooded mountain. The elevations are from 900 to over 1000 feet above sea level, one of the highest points in New Jersey. The woods abound with all the native hardwood trees, such as black birch, oak, white birch, maple, tulip, hickory, beech, and locust. etc. In the spring, the woods take on a color all their own when the dogwood and pinxter (wild azalea) add their touch, along with the various wild-flowers.
All of this to be erased for two-luxury McMansions forested ecosystems, steep slopes, for lawn culture.
Say one thing but doing another. Puddingstone Erased Stormwater Strategies for Climate Change Deniers.
You can not deforest a landscape, take away steep slopes, and soil, and then allege you have a Non-Structural Stormwater Strategy. For example a basic question in such a strategy is; does the site design utilize any of the following non-structural Best Management Practices, and Low Impact Development? 1. Preservation of natural areas? 2. Native ground cover? 3. Vegetated buffers? Also and most importantly: Maintain groundwater recharge by preserving natural areas. The lack of ecological paradigms of thought in planning is obvious, as a developers plan appears more vital, that what is already present on a landscape inherit services in support of nature, a sense of ecology first not economy, as all economies depend on ecology, and all things have limits, and must be scene within the laws of nature, not market.
Good Water and Good Landuse cannot be separated
Puddingstone Developers will erase and indigenous remaining environmentally sensitive and then allege they are making it better, absurd. The contention they will apply the highest standards, contradicts everything that will actually occur. Deforestation, not reforestation, soil removal, all other vegetation other than trees, native flowers, bushes, soil mycorrhizae all erased and carried away to some unknown place. The developer's contention that Climate Change factors are built in to the proposal is also not true, for in some fantasy vacuum. If anything this monstrosity will contribute to the climate change, and loss of biodiversity crisis.

Tree City that does not consider trees in context. Deforestation called Forestation
The developer seems to believe all trees are the same, simply replacing older maturing trees with new trees not of the same types or ages. That trees are mere decoration of landscaping schemes, rather than vital organisms of ecological services; photosynthesis/ oxygen, water retention, soil stability, and most importantly in the climate crisis carbon sequestration, taking carbon out of the atmosphere and storing it in the tree growth, as older or maturing trees store more carbon than new trees. The trees will most likely not survive, and in the end will be surrendered to private property owners whom may choose to simply not continue their existence, the disturbance of soil and indigenous biota removal, will most likely result in more invasive plant species dominating the area.
Experts Missing in Action
Puddingstone Developers brins us an engineer, an attorney, and a architect. all as experts, however we have no expertise in hydrology, or terrestrial ecology. We do have an EcolScience assessment outdated, with no mention of groundwater recharge the landscapes involve are all dominantly recharge areas, that will surely be impaired and degraded in their functions. How can a developers two luxury homes be allowed to further injure our aquifer, and having good water as an overall economic benefit by destroying the ecological services that nature provides free of charge? The soil erosion aspects of the disturbance are admittingly unknown. Soil organic matter stores water every 1-percent increase in organic matter helps hold 20,000 gallons more water per acre; all to be erased.

Water is Life Natures Ecological Services are for free
Parsippany has the highest water deficit in the watershed, and the buried valley aquifer. Why one reason is Parsippany has not done a good job in the past protecting it's groundwater recharge areas; over-development a major factor, as is depletion and consumption, add water mining; when treated sewer water leaves the aquifer and is released downstream into the Rockaway and Whippany Rivers, unavailable for recharge. The deficit remains between 1 and 7.11 million gallons per day. The reason Parsippany has enough water is due to it's two water diversion, which we pay for to maintain firm capacity. NJDEP water allocations only sees how much water is being used, pumped out of the aquifer, not how much is returning in recharge.
Your Water/Sewer Fees and Taxes.
Further improper landuse, and over-development; injury to the recharge phenomena will surely cost us all in the future. More diversions required or relied on for consumption will increase water/sewer fees and taxes. Everything eventually windsup in the water supply, so water quality and quantity are all related to land use practices. Corporate Real Estate will surely inflict costs on the resident population, many of these corporations are beyond any economy, and will not be impacted by any raises in water sewer.
Lawsuit Hype Housing as a threat
Parsippany is already zoned for the Housing and has plenty of empty already developed areas. Affordable Housing has environmental policies that would also not recommend or allow this area for so-called affordable housing. Parsippany has gotten themselves in trouble before for causing housing fears in favor of unneeded development, as what occurred at waterview.
Mr McDonough says it's a balancing act in seeing the best use for the landscape, his balancing act is already unbalanced, in one side we have half-a-bucket of seemingly clean water, the other half a bucket full of dirty water both needed for potable usage. How can a rich developer be allowed to inflict continued negative ecological impacts, and destroy forever the character of a unique neighborhood for no just cause. He can however accommodate the Puddingstone Ridge and its Creed of life in respecting the remaining nature, and inherit benefits that exist there.
Why Can't these remain sensitive areas become Open Space? That would establish the Greatest Good
Today, the needs of the nation have changed: emerging forest science and the carbon and biodiversity benefits of Proforestation demand focus on growing intact natural public and private forest, including local parks and forest reserves. There is also a growing need across the country, and particularly within highly populated areas, for additional local parks and protected forest reserves that serve and provide the public with solitude, respite and remaining nature or wild experiences. Trees and forest have never been more important than in our time, these resources are the most cost-effective and beneficial methods to mitigate climate change.
Proforestion station is the practice of protecting existing natural forests to foster continuous growth, carbon accumulation, and structural complexity.
“Proforestation serves the greatest public good by maximizing co-benefits such as nature-based biological carbon sequestration and unparalleled ecosystem services such as biodiversity enhancement, water and air quality, flood and erosion control, public health benefits, low impact recreation, and scenic beauty" We have precious little land that has not been highly modified. So as a wise man once said "when in a hole stop digging".Climate Change is real and not hard to understand, it was recognized as beginning and already happening in 1847..George Perkins Marsh Publication of The Earth as Transformed by Human Action.
It is shameful that in a Town as Large as Parsippany we have no zoned overlays for environmentally sensitive areas, or designated groundwater recharge protection areas. Puddingstone Ridge is Parsippany place to stop the senseless over-development outside the laws of natural, ignoring it's true value. How much can one developer be allowed to change a place forever for his own benefit against the common? The good is the bad we don't do. All things have limits.
(Proforestation is the practice of protecting existing natural forests to foster continuous growth, carbon accumulation, and structural complexity. It is recognized as an important forest based strategy for addressing the global crises in climate and biodiversity).
