Red Hawks Ends Medal Drought at 2014 State Group Relays

The Lady Red Hawks went into Sunday’s State Group 2 Relays with top 6 seeds in 3 events so expectations were set to bring home some hardware.  The last time for any Red Hawk relay team to earn a top 6 place at the State Relays was back in 2009 with the Girls SMR.  On Sunday, the Lady Red Hawks ended that drought and earned top 6 finishes in 2 events.  The Distance Medley relay of Samantha Pignatelli, Bria Saunders, Jennifer Mlynar, and Ally Schlosser took 5th place with a new PHS Record in a time of 12:51.94.  The previous record of 13:05.50 was set in 2001.  Later in the meet, the Sprint Medley Relay of Jennifer Mlynar, Bria Saunders, Gabby Rachmaciej and Ally Schlosser rewrote the school books again with a new school record of 4:29.03.  This is the 4 consecutive meet where the Lady Red Hawks have lower the record.

On the Boys side, expectations of a top 6 finish was going to be a challenge and the team went in with their hard hats and lunch boxes and ready for the challenge.   In the Sprint Medley, the relay of Christian Hulse-Carr, Josh Crawford, Malik Francis and Peter Hernandez finished in 10th place with a time of 3:47.96 and set a new PHS Record.  The previous record was 3:52.47 set in 2000.  In the last event of the day, the Boys 4x400m relay of Malik Francis, Christian Hulse-Carr, Josh Crawford and Peter Hernandez finished 8th in 3:36.71.
