The Red Oaks School Hosts Free Screening of "Race to Nowhere," An Important Film for Parents

On 2/24, The Red Oaks School hosts a free screening of "Race to Nowhere" at their Middle School Campus, in Morristown, NJ.

Morristown, NJ—At 7:00 PM, Tuesday, February 24, 2015, The Red Oaks School hosts a screening of “Race to Nowhere” followed by discussion at their Middle School Campus, 340 Speedwell Avenue (entrance on Ames Place), Morristown, NJ. The evening is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC and FREE to all.

When the pressures of school, homework, testing, sports, tutoring appointments, and other activities made her middle school age daughter physically ill, parent Vicki Abeles knew that things simply had to change. In the process of discovering what that entailed for her family, she uncovered a pervasive culture of blind ambition and heightened expectation that was driving children across the country to physical illness, mental breakdowns, and worse.

The documentary Abeles felt compelled to create, Race to Nowhere, looks at this national phenomenon from the viewpoints of parents, educators, and students, and wonders if excessive means achieve their desired ends. It asks that we challenge our society’s most fundamental assumptions about how to best educate and motivate our children. It begs the question, what are the most valuable skill sets for establishing an authentic, balanced life of purpose and achievement?
