UPDATED: Man, 20, Dies in Route 46 Crash

Police: Clifton resident drives wrong way, collides head-on with another vehicle.

A 20-year-old Clifton man died in an early Sunday morning crash after police said he drove the wrong way on Route 46 West and collided head-on with another vehicle near the Dunkin' Donuts strip mall.

According to Sgt. Yvonne Christiano, the Clifton man was driving a Honda Accord eastbound in the westbound lane of Route 46, when he collided with a Ford F-250 shortly before 6 a.m.

The 47-year-old male driver of the Ford was taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries. The identities of both drivers were not immediately released late Sunday afternoon.

The accident caused a portion of the road in front of 858 Route 46 West near Interstate 80 to be shut down for several hours.

Responding to the accident along with the Parsippany Police was the Parsippany Rescue and Recovery Unit, the Parsippany-Troy Hills Volunteer Fire Department, Lake Hiawatha Volunteer First Aid Squad, as well as the Morris County Prosecutor's Office Vehicular Homicide Unit.

The crash is the  in three days along that portion of Route 46 West. A North Caldwell motorcyclist was killed Friday when he crashed into a vehicle stopped at a traffic light.
