Let us begin from Venezia’s letter: The state’s problem with Parsippany’s water supply was never the levels of lead and copper present in the various sources of our water. The violation had to do with an unacceptable acidic pH of the water being distributed.

In itself, acidic water is not harmful. However, as it travels in pipes to and in your home, lead and copper can be dissolved into the acidic water, so that the final product that you drink can have unacceptable levels of these elements. There is a reason why the letter that we received in the mail this week advised us to “Run water for 15-30 seconds to flush out lead and/or copper”.

This is double-talk, as the issue of Ph is the same as lead and or copper; as the pipes are affected by acidic levels over time; unless we have pure water to begin with and a new infrastructure when the time demands, as the needs arise.

The $4.32 averages increase to remedy and pay for the needed water infrastructure; which Mr. Venezia was against as was the majority republican council. When water infrastructure; a public trust is thought not much of, to save a few dollars for all in a common obligation this is the result. So these now instant coffee water advocates, want their cake; but can’t eat it to?

As it travels in pipes in your home; and the reason for the letter: Perhaps combined with outdated infrastructure and your homes plumbing; “lead and or copper” may be a bit more in your water. Without tests for these elements because of suspected Ph levels. 6.5 PH is the difference between milk and water; nothing to be alarmed about. It appears people need to be aware that It Was Mayor Soriano who was caring enough to bring Parsippany into Conformance under the The Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act a law signed in August 2004 that will preserve open space and protect the state's greatest diversity of natural resources including the precious water resources that supply drinking water to more than half of New Jersey's families. The Last Administration, under Inglesino, rejected this accomplishment, of having Parsippany aided in its Planning under the Highlands Act, this would've easily saved waterview and more. Most people are not aware of where they live, as far as environmental, issue of ecology or geology.

The concern for US all should be other elements/chemicals of our modern times infecting our water supply; Roundup/Glysophate, or tetrachloroethylene, which shut down one of our main wells. Allegedly all these manmade industrial chemicals are at safe levels; but for whom; the industry or us? PH is subject to the very ground where it originates. In the past Parsippany did not protect its ground water recharge areas and in some cases wellheads. Mayor Soriano is changing all that with Highlands Water Protection Conformance.
