Vet, Service Dog Kicked Out of Parsippany 7-Eleven on Memorial Day
Company says it was a misunderstanding, wants to apologize to customer, report says.

On a day where military members who made the ultimate sacrifice were remembered for their heroism, one veteran says he was disrespected by a local convenience store.
Michael Deitch, a disabled veteran who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, says he was kicked out of a Parsippany 7-11 for bringing in a service dog around noon on Monday, according to news12.com.
Deitch told the television station he went into the store to get his dog, Sox, some water, and was told he had to leave because the animal wasn’t allowed in an establishment where food was served, the report said.

Sox is federally protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The incident, however, was just a misunderstanding, according to nj.com.

A spokesperson for the convenience store chain said the company allows service dogs, nj.com reported, and that the franchise was apologetic about the incident.
Deitch reportedly filed a complaint with 7-Eleven and the ADA. The veteran is both a former military member and former civilian police officer.
