📰 News we're reading

• Flooding, fallen trees leave cleanup work in Point Pleasant Beach (starnewsgroup.com) — Flooding from a weekend nor'easter left several Point Pleasant Beach streets, including Ocean Avenue and Broadway, under water and littered with fallen trees and sand, but crews have largely cleared the damage. Residents were urged to move cars to the train station lot and avoid flooded roads, while power and downed wires near St. Peter Church were repaired within days.

• Oh my gourd, Charlie Brown! (starnewsgroup.com) — Just over the bridge in Point Pleasant Beach, a homeowner who removed decades-old hedges unexpectedly ended up with a sprawling pumpkin vine where the shrubs once stood. The surprise crop, possibly tied to seeds her son planted as a child, produced several pumpkins that the family now plans to use for Halloween decorations and maybe even a pie.
