REAL TIME ELECTION RESULTS 2019: New Jersey Primary (UPDATED)

UPDATE: Results are coming in for top legislature and local primary races in the 2019 New Jersey vote.

Voters are learning results of state legislative races and big local races Tuesday evening as candidates vie for their respective party nods in the New Jersey Primary elections.

The Republican and Democratic nominees in legislative races are being picked. The state's midterm elections in November will help decide if Democrats can maintain their majority in the state Assembly (see lists below).

The polls closed at 8 p.m.

Some of the big races are in South Jersey, where insurgents are running against George Norcross's political machine in Assembly and local races. Norcross and his friend, Senate President Stephen Sweeney, have been locked in a protracted battle with Gov. Phil Murphy over the budget and other matters.

Chatham

When 2020 rolls around there will be some new faces on the governing body in both Chatham Township and Chatham Borough as some incumbents decided not to run for re-election, clearing the field for new blood. Cherry Hill

Polls are now open in the Cherry Hill Democratic and Republican primaries. They will be open until 8 p.m. As a whole, the Democrats of Camden County have voiced opposition to Norcross. The Democratic Party has a tight grip on county government, as well as local municipal governments. Edison

Two slates of four Democrats are running for the four nominations. Column A, "Real Edison Democrats," do not have the local party's support, while Column B, "Democrats For Edison," have been endorsed by the local party. Read more: Real Time Election Results: Edison, Metuchen Democrats, GOP

Gloucester Township

Polls are now open in the Gloucester Township Democratic and Republican primaries. Again, as a whole, the Democrats of Camden County have voiced opposition to Norcross. The Democratic Party has a tight grip on county government, as well as local municipal governments. Holmdel

Holmdel residents will go to the polls Tuesday to vote in the primary election. Five candidates are running for two open seats on the Holmdel Township Committee. They are: Mike Nikolis, Eric Hinds, Chiung-Yin Cheng Liu, Nicholas Teetelli and Kimberley Lamountain. Hinds (Holmdel's current mayor) and Nikolis (deputy mayor) are both longtime incumbents. Manasquan

Democratic Mayor Ed Donovan won a contested primary on Tuesday as he's running for re-election in Manasquan. Councilman Michael Mangan sought to unseat Donovan in the Democratic Primary, saying he has the support of the majority of council. Read more: REAL TIME RESULTS: Manasquan Democratic Primary

Point Pleasant Beach

Councilman Paul Kanitra defeated Mayor Stephen Reid while Point Pleasant Beach Councilman Tom Toohey and Council President Tom Vogel lost to Arlene Testa and Doug Vitale. Read more: REAL TIME RESULTS: Point Pleasant Beach Republican Primary

Toms River

Two months of bitter campaigning have come down to this: the 2019 Republican Primary in Toms River. Voters are being asked to choose Republican nominees from among three candidates for mayor and 10 candidates for three at-large Township Council seats. The Republicans selected Tuesday will go on the November general election ballot to face the Democratic candidates for those slots. The Democratic candidates are unopposed in their primary. Wayne
