1 Dead After Fiery Crash Outside NJ School For Deaf In Mercer County

Due to the intensity of the blaze, officers could not pull out the driver from the vehicle, Ewing police said.

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — One person was killed after a car crashed outside the Marie H. Katzenbach School for the Deaf in Ewing Township, police said.

The fiery crash occurred around 2 a.m. Wednesday on Lower Ferry Road. When officers arrived at the location, they found the car fully engulfed in flames and the driver trapped inside, police said.

Due to the intensity of the blaze, officers could not pull out the driver from the vehicle, police said. The Ewing Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the flames.

According to the initial investigation, the driver was driving on Stuyvesant Avenue and failed to stop at Lower Ferry Road. The driver then crashed through the fence at the Katzenbach School, continued into a wooded area, where it came to a spot and caught fire, Ewing police said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and the identity has not been released yet.

The crash is being investigated by the Ewing Police Department with assistance from the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office Serious Collision Response Tea, (SCRT).
