2 Thefts Reported In Princeton

The Princeton Police released its latest blotter.

PRINCETON, NJ — Two reports of theft were included in the recent Princeton Police blotter.

On Jan. 24 at 9:48 p.m.: A victim reported that her backpack and wallet containing personal identification documents and financial cards were missing after she believed she inadvertently left the items inside a Lyft earlier that morning. The victim stated she last had the backpackat around 7:30 a.m. while riding in a Lyft. The victim noticed the backpack missing at around 7:33 a.m. when she was at a business located on North Harrison Street. The victim contacted the Lyft driver, who advised that the backpack was not inside the vehicle. The driver further reported that a subsequent passenger he was driving had a bag matching the description when exiting the vehicle; however, due to Lyft privacy policies, no identifying information for that passenger was available. The matter is under investigation.

On Jan. 25 at 5:50 p.m.: A victim reported an identity theft / SIM-swap incident after her cell phone unexpectedly lost service and entered SOS mode. The victim learned her phone number had been transferred to another device without authorization, and the unknown actor(s) then tried to access multiple online accounts. The victim reported unauthorized access to her email and financial accounts, including attempted fraudulent transactions and an attempted wire transfer of around $10,000. Additional attempted charges were reported, some of which were declined or placed on hold by financial institutions. The victim reported no confirmed monetary loss at the time of the report. The incident remains under investigation. No suspects at this time.
