35 Hamilton Employees To Be Fired When Steelworker Plant Closes

The layoffs come after Siemens industrial steelworker plant in Hamilton announced it was closing down.

HAMILTON, NJ — A total of 35 employees of the Siemens Demag Delaval Turbomachinery, Inc. will be laid off by the end of next month after the Siemens industrial steelworker plant in Hamilton announced that it was closing down in the near future a year ago, according to The Trentonian.

"This difficult decision was made as a result of the downturn in the global energy market," a Siemens spokesman said in an email to The Trentonian. "The reductions will occur in multiple phases and affect employees from Siemens' Power Generation Services business and corporate functions."

More than 1,500 layoffs are planned at Siemens and eight other businesses, including more than 500 after Conagra Brands closes its Parsippany and Cherry Hill offices.
