NJDOT's Project to Replace Alexander Road Bridge over D&R Canal:
The project will replace the bridge, which was built in 1948 and is in poor condition, over the D&R Canal between Princeton and West Windsor, NJDOT said.

The current three-span bridge will be replaced with a new single-span bridge that will have a beam-supported concrete deck on reinforced concrete abutments. The bridge railings and guiderail will be designed to represent the historic nature of the D&R Canal and surrounding area.
The new roadway will have two 12-foot lanes, two 5-foot shoulders and two 5-foot wide timber sidewalks with concrete curbs, NJDOT stated.
Mercer County's Project to replace the Bridge over Stony Brook and Bridge over Alexander Creek:
Both bridges over Stony Brook and Alexander Creek are north of the D&R Canal.
Installed in 1989 as a temporary replacement, the existing bridge over the Stony Brook will be replaced with a permanent one that can allow for bus and truck traffic. Bridge railings and guiderail will also be designed to represent the historic nature of the D&R Canal and surrounding area.
The bridge just north of Basin Street over Alexander Creek also will be replaced due to deteriorated
structural conditions.
Both bridges will be built with the same roadway configuration as the new D&R Canal Bridge being constructed by NJDOT.
Detours:
Alexander Street will be fully closed between Lawrence Drive in Princeton to Canal Pointe Boulevard in West Windsor. The detour route will use Faculty Road (a private University roadway), Washington Road (Mercer County Route 571), and Route 1.
Princeton residents on Basin Street and Karin Court can access their properties through Lawrence Drive during the construction project.
All questions, concerns, and comments regarding this joint Mercer County Department of Transportation and Infrastructure and NJDOT project shall be submitted to NJDOT Office of Community Relations, at 609-963-1982 or email.
